Here to Help
January 14 @ 7:30 pm9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Thursday, repeating indefinitely
You have spent tireless years raising your children when… something goes wrong. Alcohol, drugs, and other destructive behaviours have entered your child’s life, changing everything.
With sadness, you wonder, “What happened to my sweet innocent child?” or “What did I do wrong?” and “What can I do to fix them?” You feel confused, betrayed, guilty, angry, and ashamed. Your other children and relationships are beginning to suffer. Sometimes, you falsely believe that once one crisis has passed, the problem will go away, but it does not. Many parents and siblings feel as if they are being held hostage in their own home to the addicts’ behaviours and moods.
Are you ready for a change? Here To Help is an educational and support group tailormade just for you. Here To Help was developed as an introduction to addiction issues.
Here To Help is open to anyone struggling with addiction or their families/friends who want to understand more about addiction. Topics include how to respond to the behaviours that often accompany substance use and abuse, self-care, and healthy boundaries.
Most Thursday nights our room is attended by a wide mix of people. Some continue to attend, even though the problem that originally brought them has been resolved. They want to strengthen or do not want to forget the lessons they have learned that brought their individual and family lives into health. They also want to share their strength, experience, and hope with others in need of help.
We suggest that you do not make up your mind about the usefulness of the support group after only one meeting. There is so much information, and there are so many emotions at the beginning. It can be overwhelming. As we jest, “Please keep an open mind and attend six meetings before you decide whether this group is for you or not. If you don’t like it, we’ll gladly refund your pain and misery.”
Here To Help takes place every Thursday night at 846 Sheppard Avenue West and is facilitated by David Kaufman and Ita Tobis.
