Concerned Persons Group
December 3 @ 8:00 pm9:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating indefinitely
Are you concerned about another person’s substance use or other addictive behaviours? Are you wondering if it’s a problem? Are you feeling confused, scared and alone? The JACS Concerned Persons Group is a safe place to explore your concerns. The group was developed for those struggling to cope with the behaviour of those with substance abuse/process addictions or are in early recovery. The weekly meeting uses an intensive group format to discuss issues surrounding enabling, codependency and family dynamics.
The group encourages participants to take an honest look at their own behaviours and see how their best intentions can often make a bad situation worse. Utilizing feedback and sharing of personal experiences, the group format allows participants to learn from each other’s struggles and victories.
Together, the facilitators moderate the discussion while providing insight into addict and family dynamics based on personal experience and clinical theory.
The emphasis of the group is to encourage participants to ensure they are taking care of themselves, both mentally and physically, and not allowing addict behaviour to destroy their own health and well-being. It also pushes participants to make difficult decisions while becoming more conscious of how their actions improve or hurt their respective situations. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance in all JACS groups and the motto, what you hear here, who you see here, stays here.
The group runs weekly on Tuesday Evenings from 8:00-9:30 pm at 846 Sheppard Ave. West on the main floor and is facilitated by Felix Vikhman and Sarah Shulman.
