Teen Group

This peer support group is for adolescents ages 14 to 18. Teens who may identify along a broad spectrum are welcome at this group, including teens who may struggle with substance abuse; teens who are experimenting or using socially; teens who are interested in learning more about substance use and related concerns; teens who may have family members or friends struggling with addiction and are impacted vicariously. Allowing a mixture of adolescents who are participating for a variety of reasons has many benefits. For those who are more advance and may struggle with their substance use can benefit from being surrounded by other teens their age and feel supported, while minimizing the associated stigma and shame of substance abuse. For these individuals, the facilitator will often extend additional one-on-one support outside of the group. For teens who are still in the experimental stage/social use, they have an opportunity to hear and see the reality of where substance abuse can lead people.

Each week, group members will spend a brief few minutes “checking-in” about their week and identify positives and negatives, as well as something that they may want to spend more time discussing. After everyone has checked-in the facilitator will facilitate those who needed additional time to share and receive feedback and discussion based on a variety of topics that were brought up during group members check-ins.

The group atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed, in order for teens to feel safe and comfortable sharing. Group members are asked to uphold respect for each other and while giving feedback to do so in a non-judgmental and respectful way

Pizza and refreshments provided.

This group will be suspended for the summer
